Russell Martin’s Experience of Working
with Mark Bowden

All of my clients and the specific work I do with them is confidential.

However I very much appreciate it when players make their experiences of working with me public.
A huge thank you to Russell Martin for leaving this review of our work together.

Russell Martin’s Experience of Working with Mark Bowden

All of my clients and the specific work I do with them is confidential.

However I very much appreciate it when players make their experiences of working with me public.

A huge thank you to Russell Martin for leaving this review of our work together.

My First experience of working with Mark Bowden – if you can call it “working with”, was reading his book ‘Use
Your Brain, Raise Your Game’, which I read and read with lots of interest.

I’ve read lots of books about psychology, especially in relation to sport and football. There are so many out
there and I find myself reading lots of different ones and it all at times becomes a bit of a
blur and a bit of a crossover.

I read his and it was extremely clear, intelligent and just easy to use. The subtle hints and tips that are in
there all add up to help you immensely.

I read the book and then got in touch with Mark to find out more about what he could
do and what he could offer. Then we agreed that I would embark on a 12 week course with Mark.

We couldn’t meet face to face, travelling would have been huge for both of us, although he did offer, but our
schedules didn’t allow it. So we did it through video call once a week.

I have to say from the off, from the start I found it extremely beneficial, extremely helpful. I felt extremely
comfortable with what we were doing and the impressions it was making on me and the improvements I
was seeing.

It was just reminders. As I’ve said, I’ve studied this area a lot over the years, because as footballers or sports
people in general we train our bodies a lot, without focusing enough on the mental side.

The mental capacity, resilience and dealing with pressure in high pressure environments…. and just
maximising what you have. Being confident, robust, having character. All the stuff you need to be successful
in sport and in general life as well.

That is what I found very helpful. Mark was extremely clear, gave lots of advice. Listened a lot to what your
experiences were, what you were going through, different scenarios and just made me see things in different
ways that maybe I wasn’t seeing before.

Different ways of thinking and dealing with certain situations as well and I have to say I found it extremely
helpful for the whole 12 weeks. I was actually disappointed when the course came to an end. Even since the
course came to an end Mark has sent me various videos and text messages to help.

Little reminders and I have to say that I can’t recommend him highly enough, read his book too, I think it’s
great

I’m really please I’ve worked with him and I will continue to do so I’m sure at some point in the future and I’m
sure that if anyone chooses to work with him you will find it to be as beneficial as I have and have a really
positive impact on your life and your career.

Thanks very much Mark and good look to anyone else who embarks on the same journey.
